To give a little history, Kristen and I have been caretakers of our mother for the last several years, and back in March, we had to put her in hospice. This was a very stressful time, with many back and forth visits to see her. During this time, Kristen and I both were suffering from exhaustion, however, it appeared to be hitting Kristen particularly hard. As things got closer to the end with my mom, Kristen was feeling worse and was admitted to the hospital on several different occasions. The doctors ran test after test, but weren’t really finding what was going on.
The weekend my mother passed away, Kristen was again in the hospital and ended up checking herself out so that we could all be together with my mother, but it was obvious Kristen was very ill. My mother passed away on Sunday May, 24th, and Monday, Kristen was back in the hospital. Tuesday, most of the tests came back and we were informed Kristen had stage 4 lung cancer that had metastasized to her brain. A few days later, after more tests came back, we were told the bit in her brain was small, but it was also in her pelvis and both hips.
Kristen started radiation for her hips on Friday, 6/5 and starts chemo today for the rest of it. She is still in the hospital and receiving treatment there as they have not found the right combination of drugs to keep her comfortable.
At this time, we ask that everyone keep her in your thoughts and prayers. We will keep this site updated as things happen and will be sure to record not only the lows but the highs as well. Kristen has many plans, from spending time here with us, to seeing her beloved Dave Matthews and visiting my Dad in Montana. She will also be writing here as her strength allows. Even if she is not writing, she is reading, so any thoughts or comments you wish to share with her here, please know she will see it.
